TSUGU is an incredibly modern & clean hotel centrally located in Kyoto, walking distance to Nishiki Market, Gion & Higashiyama Districts as well as Pontocho, surrounded by lots of boutiques & restaurants while having a local neighbourhood feel. We love the futuristic minimalist design aesthetic of the hotel’s rooms & facilities which is well thought out. The hotel also provides generous amenities and there’s a spacious kitchen, living space on the 4th floor, which was great to have and almost felt like having a private kitchen to ourselves. The staff were also super friendly & helpful. It’s also really good value for money, given the location as well.

The location was excellent. Walking distance to everything we wanted to see, central markets, shopping and the old part of Kyoto. The bathroom was lovely and easy to share for 3 of us. The communal kitchen was fantastic. Everything was always clean, we used it regularly.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The architecture and design of the hotel is beautiful and it’s located central in downtown Kyoto, but in a calm neighbourhood. The staff is super kind and helpful and the cafe makes great coffee and we had some good breakfast there as well. We stayed with our nine month old baby. Our room had two big beds next to each other, one up against a wall, which made it easy and comfortable to co-sleep. The common-room provided good facilities for stay-in dinners and there was a machine giving cold drinking water (refill of our bottles). We had a great time at TSUGU Kyoto Sanjo and highly recommend it.

This place is modern and minimalist. The hotel is cutting down on plastic so there's a community kitchen on the 4th floor where you can fill up with filtered cold water, there's also a refrigerator/freezer, water heater, microwave, toaster and stovetop for food storage/prep. There's a huge table and chairs to sit and eat and a reading area to relax or chat with other guests. Guests during the week seemed mainly foreigners with more japanese on the weekend. The bathroom doesn't have a lot of space to put vanity items, but the toilet is nice with heated water for the bidet and the shower/furo (bathtub) was japanese style, spacious and relaxing after a day walking around. There wasn't a lot of room to move around the beds or lay out suitcases, but the beds were comfy and the walls were concrete which made it very quiet, and the window shutters did a great job of keeping the room dark. Hotel staff varied but overall very friendly and helpful answering questions and ordering a taxi for us (our hotel in Tokyo said they would charge us extra if they ordered a taxi). It's a short walk from public transportation and from a lot of shopping and places to eat, but it's not on a main road.

Lovely hotel, has a great industrial artsy vibe. The location is superb, you can walk everywhere and it's quiet. We slept in the Japanese style family room, it was spacious enough for us and a really unique experience. Breakfast was so tasty, we got a salad plate plus could choose from a different dish everyday. It felt like having breakfast at a trendy cafe. Also loved having the convenient shared kitchen, made it easy as a family with small kids to have dinner there sometimes, also the washing machines were handy. I appreciate the eco friendly options for cleaning the room, for example only changing the garbage vs. cleaning the whole room.

It was my first time staying at this hotel, and my initial impression was simply that it looked exactly like the photos on Booking.com. The hotel is beautiful, perfect for those who love taking photos or creating content. However, it wasn’t just the appearance that impressed me, the staff made the experience even more delightful. The service was excellent, the room was spacious and very clean. The hotel also has a café and evening bar, along with a common area on the 4th floor where you can cook or bake treats. Right next to the hotel, there’s an Aesop store and other branded shops, so you can enjoy a walk down the hotel’s street as well. If I visit Kyoto again, I’ll definitely stay here once more, I’d love to try staying in a room with tatami mats next time.

Stylish modern hotel Delicious breakfast at the cafe on the ground level Great location, so many lovely small restaurants near by to choose from. Perfect location for the different districts/thing to see/do in Kyoto Easy to get buses to wherever you want to go. They are a flat rate, which atm works out at about £1 per journey …a bargin and fun to see life as you go along We like everything about it, esp the very smiley receptionist 😊

Clean, welcoming and in a fabulous location. Brilliant bathroom, powerful shower, lovely bath and top quality shampoo/conditioner and shower gel. Stylish room with a fridge (handy for keeping drinks in) and a space on the floor we were on to prepare meals, lounge and eat (we didn't use it, but I imagine great if travelling with families). Washing machines allowed us to clean some clothes - the perfect hotel and would stay there again if we are ever lucky enough to visit Kyoto again. The staff were so warm, kind and welcoming and always available.

The hotel's location is great for walking around the Nishiki Market neighbourhood as well as commuting to other areas of Kyoto via public transport. The staff is friendly and helpful. The common lounge / dining space is a very convenient facility, as is the 24-hr coin-operated laundry. Our room was Japanese-style with a tatami area, which was very useful because we had large suitcases. Everything was clean and comfortable.

Superb location. The hotel has its own unique atmosphere with its modern design and minimalist style aligned with traditional Japan arts. Small art shops and boutiques around it. Walking distance to Nishiki market, close to Subway station. There is a speciality coffee bar in the hotel, very recommendable. Delicious, healthy breakfast with selected seasonal vegetables and freshly baked pancakes.
